Premium car manufacturers, Audi, announced the arrival of the Q7 in front of a very exclusive audience comprising of a select group of journalists. It was a hushed up affair which ultimately turned out to be a hit with many members of Audi America giving their own inputs and answers to the queries that arose during the Q7’s unveiling. Built very much along the lines of the VW Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne, Audi’s latest launch is a moderately sized SUV which has a wheelbase that is longer than the above mentioned Toureg by roughly half a foot. The elongated look makes the Q7 look quite stunning and chic.
Being an SUV or Sports Utility Vehicle, the Q7 shows of Audi’s high build quality by having a very well balanced build that gives it a muscular yet graceful look. You can immediately make out that it belongs to the Audi pavilion by taking a look at the tail lamps, headlamps, rear-view mirrors and door handles as Audi has followed its norms of keeping the same look going despite the car belonging to a different category. The grill is a perfect match for the horizontal strip that is painted along the side of the SUV along with the standard deep grayish colour which is another sign of a typical Audi vehicle. To reduce the dominating presence of the grill, the Q7 has a nice narrow strip of chrome that outlines it.
Noticeably, the Q7 does seem to remind you of the Audi Avant. The tall shoulder line, slim window area, a slanted roof that proceeds from front to back and the angle of the rear window, seem to give the SUV a very sophisticated look which the Avant possessed. Also, the tips of the tail lamps forming the top corners of the depression in the body work to place the license plate is another feature that highlights the similarity between the Q7 and the Audi Avant. Apart from this, the design of the Q7 includes the mounting of 2 long and narrow reflectors on the rear bumper which also provides the space to place turning signals or rear fog lamps.
The Audi Q7 also has an option of having 3-row seating, a feature that pushes it a notch above both, the Touareg and the Cayenne. The middle row seats can be folded and rolled forward to provide easy access to the rear seating. The fact that the middle row seats can be moved forward ensures that the back seat passengers have a modest amount of legroom. There is also the added function of the rear seat being made to be able to fold flat onto the cars flooring to provide good space to store cargo. Audi has also made it a point to make sure that the rear row of seats can be controlled electronically.
