Your Dream SUV: Buick Enclave
Buick unveiled their latest model SUV for the year 2008,the Buck Enclave, which was introduced to the markets in May 2007. The Enclave is very similar to the latest from General Motors, the GM Lambda, amongst many other cars in the same category including the GMC Acadia, the Saturn Outlook and the Chevrolet Traverse. Based on one of its predecessors, the Buick Centieme, the enclave is a replacement to some of Buick’s big cars; the Rendezvous, the truck Rainer and the mini-van Terraza. The Enclave is a brand new luxury car with off-road capabilities.
The Enclave can seat up to 7 people and includes the option of having a bench in the second row to increase its seating by 1. Its mechanical and physical structure is nearly imitates its competitors mentioned above, namely, the Acadia, Outlook and Traverse. The Enclave is available in both front wheel drive and 4 wheel drive options.
It features a 275 horse power (205killo-watts), 3.6 Litre highfeature V6 engine under its hood with a 6 speed auto-transmission. The engine uses the latest direct injection system which is known to provide a wider torque curve and thereby increasing the car’s mileage as reported by the United States E.P.A (Environmental Protection Agency). The car can give upto 17 miles/gallon-US (14 liters/100km or 20 miles/gallon-imp)/ 24 miles/gallon-US (9.8 liters/100km or 29 miles/gallon-imp) for the front wheel drive and 16 miles/gallon-US(15liters/100km or 19miles/gallon-imp)/ 22miles/gallon-US (11 liters/100km or 26miles/gallon-imp) for the all wheel drive variant. The new variant has a 3.6 liter V6 SIDI (Direct-injection) VVT engine with 286 horses (213 killo watts) pounding beneath the hood and 255 ft. pounds (346 nm) of standard torque.
The Lambda’s are being manufactured at General Motor’s Delta Town Assembly Plant in the area next to Lansing Michigan, and the Buick Enclave’s production began on the 11th of April in 2007 with the first batch reaching dealers by the later dates of the same month. The introductory price of the car was set at $ 32,790. General Motors bumped up the warranty period as well, offering 5 yr./100,000 miles Power-Train coverage in contrast to the 4 yr./50,000 miles warranty that Buick offered.
The Buick Enclave was known as the longest single-body car owing to the fact that it was an inch more in length as compared to the Lambda. It has also earned a good reputation due to the fact that it has keep the single-body construction without hindering its on-frame body construction. The Enclave is also known to be extremely silent and it boasts of top class interior design and quality. It is claimed to be one of GM’s most coveted creations and it is very aesthetically pleasing.
Despite the positive aspects, the Enclave has a niggling problem with the uncertainty of its down-shift due to the 6 speed gear box. The car is heavy as well, weighing in at 5000 lbs. However the 2009 model raised the game by providing more torque to Buick’s big beauty.
