Did you know that biodiesel is the most tested, highly approved and fasted growing alternative fuel in the world?? Biodiesel is an easy to make, reusable fuel source, that can be used in any diesel engine. The process of making biodiesel is done by mixing vegetable oil with methanol and lye, then modifying the mix by using a biodiesel processor!!
The process of making homemade biodiesel becomes easier with practice!! More and more people are joining the ever growing biodiesel community, and discovering the countless benefits of making their own homemade biodiesel!!
One thing you may not realise is that biodiesel is actually better for your car’s engine than regular diesel!! This is because biodiesel contains more lubricant properties and burns cleaner than other diesel and petroleum fuels. Another great advantage is that the emissions generate quite a satisfying smell
Why is biodiesel better for your own personal health than any other forms of fuel?? Regular diesel produces harmful exhaust emissions; these fumes pose problems to both the environment and the human body. Studies have shown that biodiesel is actually less toxic than table salt, and is as biodegradable as sugar!!
Making your own homemade biodiesel will certainly help you out financially!! And with a little practice you can begin running your car on as little as 50 cents a gallon. When making biodiesel it’s always better to familiarise yourself with the procedure first; once mastered, you’ll find that homemade biodiesel is not only good for your car’s engine, it also a lot less expensive!!
When mixing up your first test batch, you must make sure that you’re using the correct amount of lye. You should use 4 grams of lye to every litre of unused vegetable oil; or 6 grams of lye for used oil. You can mix the ingredients using a regular home blender
This mixture can get very hot, so make sure to wear gloves and goggles, and use a big thick mixing bowl!! The first step is to slowly add your lye and methanol, simultaneously. Keep mixing until the lye has dissolved, and you’ll be left with a substance known as methoxide!! You will then need to pre-heat the vegetable oil and mix with the methoxide. Put your mixture into the blender for 30 mins, with the blender running on slow. You then need to allow the mixture to settle for 24 hours!! Once settled you should have thin liquid on the top and thick liquid on the bottom.
Making your own homemade biodiesel takes some practice, but once you’ve mastered the skill it can be very helpful. The knowledge you learn from making homemade biodiesel can be used to teach friends and family, or even make some additional money on the side. Who knows, eventually you might be able to start your own biodiesel business!!
