Regular oil changes every 3,000 miles or three months are the best investments that you can get for your car or truck. Staying on top of your oil change intervals, as busy as you may be, can be the difference between your car still driving like new after five years or prematurely turning into a “clunker” before its time.
Oil does much more for vehicles that people realize. Its has a lot of functions that it carries out. Its one of those items that people take for granted, quite naturally, and never know whats its actual purpose is unless something goes wrong.
The main part of your engine is comprised of several cylinders with pistons in them. Tiny explosions are created inside these cylinders making the pistons go up and down at thousands of times per minute. The only thing stopping your pistons from wearing down these cylinder walls is motor oil. You can imagine how tough the oil has to work eliminating metal on metal contact as much as possible.
Can you imagine that heat caused by the pistons going up and down and all those explosions. Its massive! If not for the motor oil in your car than your engine would quickly overheat and blow several gaskets in several seconds. Motor oil is specifically designed to hold and transfer heat inside your engine.
A huge service that motor oil does for your car is suspending sludge and and metal shavings that are in your engine. A lot of grime builds us in your engine and oil cleans and carries the grime out of your engine and to your filter.
There really is no reason for not staying on top of your oil changes in our modern day. Your motor oil takes a beating with all the duties its expected to perform and needs to be replaced on a regular basis. You can try to change the oil yourself but this can be quite challenging in newer vehicles without the right tools and you still have to dispose of the waste oil. In every town or city there is a quick lube not too far away from anyone eliminating any excuses for not getting an oil change when it comes time.
A typical oil change will cost about $30-$40. You can get cheaper oil changes but I tend to avoid those places because the service is bad as they hire less than qualified people and their goal is often to bait you in their shop and find everything in the book wrong with your car resulting in a $400 or more bill. In some places you can even check and see if there is a mobile oil change service available. This makes getting an oil change even easier than waiting at a quick lube for twenty to thirty minutes during your lunch break, after work, or on the weekends.
If you want to keep your engine in top shape keep on top of your oil changes. Its crucial! There is not a more important thing you can do besides putting gas in your vehicle. An oil change every 3,000 miles will ensure that your engine components stay new like the day you bought it. Oil gets a beating and news to be changed out. Like water in the human body it needs to be replenished. Keep on top of it and your vehicle’s engine will last forever.
