Spray Paint You Car in 6 Easy Steps – Why Not?
A way in which you can give your car a completely different look without having to change it is to give it a new paint job. With the economy in its current state and the wage rate declining continuously a new paint job is a cheaper way of giving your car a new look. If the engine mechanics are in good condition and it is only the body of the car that you are bored of then you can go in for a new paint job.
It saves you a lot of money and what you can do to save a little bit more is to do it yourself instead of going to professionals. All you need to do is learn the basics and follow instructions carefully and you will be able to re paint your car. One thing though that you need to do if you take on this project is, be ready to make sure that you are giving it your 100% right till the end.
There are a few things that you will need to buy first if you are going to do this yourself. These include:
Covering that you will need for the unpainted areas and masking tape so that these are held in place. A good detergent and brush for washing your car and a grease/wax remover. You will need lots of sandpaper. Paint and primers are also needed and they should be urethane based. You will also need a paint sprayer, a knife for fill ins as well as a putty and safety equipment like goggles, protective clothing and masks.
The first thing you need to do is wash your car very well so that all the debris and grime from the body gets removed. If you do not wash your car then the grime and debris will set in below your paint spoiling the finished look. After this you should you grease/wax remover so that the paint will adhere properly while spraying.
Second, you need to use the sandpaper to remove all the rough spots. After this, you rinse off all the loose sand that is left on the car. Here you can use the putty to fill all the minor pit marks that might have been caused by stones or something similar.
You shouldn’t rush into painting your car. It needs to be completely dry before you start painting. So you should wait for a few hours before starting. You can use this time to cover the areas you do not want to paint with the covering and masking tape.
Now you can start to apply primer to your car. You shouldn’t skip this step as it gives a much better finished look. It makes it easier for the paint to adhere and gives a more even finish. After the primer dries, you have to use sandpaper lightly over it again.
Now you can finally start painting the car. Irrespective of whether you have chosen to use a spray gun or aerosol paint you have to follow the same method. Make sure to apply thin coats. A couple of coats will be more than enough. These couple of light coats are far better than a single thick coat. If you just look at your car you will be able to judge how many more coats it will need. This could vary from 2 to 3 to 4.
Now you can look at the job you have done and admire your personalized paint job.
