In my town there were more used car dealerships than any other business category. Today there seem to be a thing of the past. When I open a paper I hardly even see many cars listed in the classifieds. So what did I do when I wanted to sell my used car? A friend told me how to sell my car fast on Craigslist and I am amazed how my eyes were opened about this service. Craigslist has become THE place for classifieds in the world, with a presence in 9 countries and 450 cities they will be the only place for most buyers and sellers soon. You either become a victim of change or embrace change. I suggest you embrace it, especially if you want to sell your car. Beware though, scammers and crooks will always be there.
TELL THE TRUTH PEOPLE! Was that loud enough? I am so tired of finding out the facts in a round about treasure hunt. The more honest you can be the less likely others will believe you are ripping them off.
Bottom line; please tell all the facts about the car. Even if you are embarrassed about the Happy Meal stuck in-between the seat and middle console, say I am to lazy to clean this car so I will drop the price $150. It is better of to spend a few bucks to get the car detailed and in a condition to pass state safety and emission inspections or you will not sell your car for near what you think. Tell me why you want to sell the car and why I should buy it.
PICTURES, PICTURES, PICTURES! Must I preach here? I would have to say, next to the details about the car that people seem to skimp on this it critical to sell your car. Last time I wanted to buy a used car on Craigslist I searched multiple cities several hours every day for weeks and was stunned how few ads were including quality and quantity of photos. Please take good pictures that tell me a story, PLEASE!!!
If you want to sell your car fast on Craigslist you must go to KBB.com, NADAGuides.com, or Edmunds.com. I believe from my research that KBB.com is most accurate in online selling values more than the others. There can be huge variations sometimes between these services. Use the Private Party Good value for your sales price, unless you have a car in high demand this is the most you will get. Online buyers are looking at the same services. Be very specific in all the facts about the car. The more you say the more buyers think you are a car lover and take good care of it. Don’t keep me guessing unless you want tons of emails asking you questions that should have been included.
Are you really wanting to sell your car online or are you just that bored have no friends and want hundreds of people to call and email you to make your week? If so then say what needs to be said about your car. Is it automatic, color, windows work, air works, needs service, breaks are shot, cigarette burns everywhere. Don’t leave anything out.
If you want more than Private Party Good value for you car, than this format is not going to be right for you most likely. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers’ profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle’s actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions.
I told a client that wanted me to sell his car that had a limited buyer pool that the value will be unknown due to the collectability or not of his special car. He wanted $9,000 which is what KBB.com said it was worth; however after 4 weeks of ads and a top offer of $7,000 I told him that would unfortunately be the actual value. He chose not to sell. The truth can be painful at times.
Many sellers are not sure how to utilize keywords, please only use keywords that pertain to your car, not everything you can think to get someone looking for a Moped and happen to see your Prius in the search. Also Or Best Offer means you are willing to negotiate and TAKE the best offer. If this is not true don’t include it. There are many buyers for your car, but it is up to you to attract them with the right photos, keywords, description, price, availability, and honesty. Happy selling.
