Vegetable Oil As Fuel

The fastest growing fuel alternative to petrol which is being tested and is approved is bio-diesel. It is a reusable fuel source that can be used in any diesel engine and is easy to make. The process involves mixing vegetable oil, methanol and lye and modifying it with the help of a bio-diesel processor.

Frequent practice makes the production of bio-diesel even easier. Every day, more and more people are becoming a part of the bio-diesel community and realizing the numerous benefits of making their own fuel.

There is something you will be shocked to hear, bio-diesel is better for your engine than normal diesel. As bio-diesel burns cleaner and has more lubricant properties than normal diesel or petroleum it is a great advantage for your engine. It also generates a quite satisfying odor.

The Southwest Research institute recently spent millions of dollars for testing exhaust fumes that are emitted by bio-diesel. They found that it is a bio-degradable fuel, does not threaten the human body and is non toxic.,

If you make your own fuel, you will only be spending around 50 cents for a gallon of fuel. You should always start out with some test batches. As you get accustomed to the process it seems to become simpler.

Make sure that the right amount of lye is being used while making the fuel. It is recommended to use around 4 grams of lye for 1 liter of unused vegetable oil and 6 grams for used vegetable oil. A normal blender can be used for the mixing.

Ensure that you are wearing the required safety equipment before you start including gloves and goggles. Use a solid, big mixing bowl as the mixture can get a little extra hot. First, add methanol and lye a bit at a tie and mix it until you dissolve the lye. Here you get methoxide. Now preheat the oil and mix it with the methoxide. Now let it run in a blender for half an hour on slow. Now, let it sit for at least 24 hours. If you have done it right then you will see thin mixture at the top and thick mixture at the bottom. If it does not look like that then you have either added too much lye or too little.

To master this technique will take practice, but the rewards you attain will be worth the effort. You can use what you have learnt to teach your family and friends or to earn a few extra bucks. You might even be able to start your own business that is based on bio-diesel.
